Bridesmaids - Chick Flick a la feminista? or Comedy of the Year?

The trailer looks RUBBISH - a typical chick flick trailer which makes you think "I'll leave that one for a dvd night in with my girl friends"

However.......... the reviews have been amazing, turning this normal looking chick flick into the comedy of the year.

I haven't laughed that much in a film for a LONG TIME.
Some critics say it's the girl version of the Hangover ....
Some critics welcome it as a pro-feminist film, concentrating on female relationships - strengths and weaknesses and emphasising less the boy-girl romcom style relationship.
Some put it in the same box as Mean Girls and Legally Blonde..

Whatever you choose to brand it as, it is a HILARIOUS, sweet, girly, kinda disgusting at times, funny funny Comedy and 100% worth watching NOW... don't wait for the DVD.

Beautiful June Photography

I love photography, I love taking "capture the moment" pictures (Which my friends tend to despise me for..), I would love to learn how to use my camera properly...

But in the meantime I stand in awe of great photography and here is the latest greatest from the month of June..

And this is my FAVE:

UN Women

This year, UN Women was launched... finally, I thought! Before the UN had different organisations dealing with different areas, now UN Women deal with it all.

  • Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW)

  • International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW)

  • Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women (OSAGI)

  • United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM)

  • A great quote from the president, Michelle Bachelet (ex Chilean president):

"Where we fail to capitalise on the potential and talents of one-half of the population, we also squander the potential to reduce poverty, hunger, disease, environmental degradation and violence."

The work UN Women is fundemental to create a more equal, just and less violent world and the more it is supported, the better it will do.

The dream is that hopefully one day, it won't need to exist ...
